Ok friends. I get so many questions about what to wear on your engagement session, and I totally understand! You dress yourself every day, but when it comes to taking photos, who knows what looks good?! You frantically search through your closet, wondering what looks good together, what looks flattering, what your fiance should wear…I know it’s a challenge. So here’s a helpful guide from a photographer’s perspective!
First of all, and most importantly, wear something that makes you comfortable! There’s nothing worse than being at your session and constantly having to pull down your dress, pull up your shirt, hobble around in uncomfortable stilettos you never wear. In order to get the best photographs, you want to be able to focus on your fiance, not your clothing. That doesn’t mean you can’t dress up, but just make sure you will be comfortable!
2. People ask all the time about patterns. Patterns are totally ok! Just make sure that the pattern isn’t too big, as that can be distracting from your face. Plaid, polka dots, stripes…all ok! Logos, words, and sweaters with huge cats on them probably aren’t the best :) 3. You and your fiance can look good together without being too matchy-matchy. Re: matching navy shirts and matching khaki pants. No, no. If you’re wearing the same colors, you tend to blend together into a big blog. As long as you aren’t in a ballgown while your man is in jean shorts, don’t worry too much about matching. Think same style, not same color. 4. I love the addition of a fun necklace, pretty bracelets, a hairpiece, or colorful shoes! Anything to add some of your personality and a little bling! And if you’re in a park or on the beach, a blanket is a great addition!
Ultimately, you want to have fun with it. So pick things that go with your style and personality. I can’t wait to see what you choose! For more advice and a whole bunch of sample outfits, visit my Pinterest board, HERE!
