A Waterfront Park Proposal in Charleston, SC | Bri + Stuart
Stuart planned the most perfect Waterfront Park proposal! I always love being part of proposals – for many different reasons! Obviously, because it’s SO fun to see the reaction of the person when their significant other gets down on one knee and to be able to send them photos to remember that specific moment. But I also love getting to be part of the planning process! Every proposal is different, and I love hearing the thought process behind proposals.
Stuart let me know that Bri had been asking him for months (maybe even longer than that!) to do a couples photoshoot with her. At some point, he knew that he would be proposing soon, so he wanted to put off the photoshoot until then. When he decided to propose in Charleston, he thought it would be the perfect excuse to plan a photoshoot. Then he could play it off like, “Ok, we’re on vacation in Charleston, so now we can FINALLY do that photoshoot you’ve been asking about!”
So when they showed up to Waterfront Park, I went to meet them like it was just a normal couples photoshoot. Bri was excited that Stuart had given in to her photoshoot idea. We took a few photos in the tree-lined path at Waterfront Park, and then, knowing that Stuart had to have been SO nervous, I signaled that it was time to get down on one knee. As they were walking towards me, he reached into his pocket, pulled out the ring, and dropped down to one knee. I LOVED Bri’s reaction to this sudden change of plans.
One of my other favorite parts about photographing proposals is watching the “proposee” (Is that a word? I’m making it up now, and y’all know what I mean!) starting to put together all the weird things that have happened leading up to this point. Like why their significant other made them get dressed up, why they had to leave on time, why their mom said something weird and random to them before they left for vacation, etc.
And really, I just love the giddy excitement from both parties right after the proposal takes place and throughout the whole session. I feel honored that I’m able to be part of this momentous event for so many couples!
