A Sunset Marsh Proposal with Taylor Rae Photography

There are very few moments in life that happen only once.

A proposal is one of them.

It’s the start of something entirely new…the moment your relationship shifts from what has been into everything that’s about to come. As a Charleston proposal photographer, I often tell clients that while the proposal itself may last only a minute or two, the photographs become something you’ll return to for the rest of your lives.

There’s something so meaningful about being able to revisit the exact moment later. To see the surprise on their face. To remember how nervous you felt beforehand. To notice the little details you may have missed in real time because your heart was racing. Proposal photography freezes all of it…the sights, the emotions, the atmosphere…in a way memory alone simply can’t hold onto forever.

Planning a proposal can feel overwhelming at first, which is why I love walking clients through every step of the process. I loved walking through all of this with Ben. He knew that he wanted a natural backdrop, and thought the marsh might be nice. I showed him this location, and he was sold right away. Together, we made a plan for where I would be hiding out, where he would take Megan, and the exact spot for him to drop down on one knee and ask her to marry him.

As we were wrapping up the session, Ben told me, “I was stressing out SO much about this proposal. But as soon as I found you, everything was smooth sailing from that point on.”

At the end of the day, the location and details matter, and that’s what I’m here to help you with. But the connection between two people matters most. My goal is always to create photographs that bring you back to that exact feeling every time you look at them. The excitement. The relief. The overwhelming joy of hearing “yes.”
