Travels in France + Iceland
In my reminiscing of traveling to far off places, I was looking at photos of France and Iceland. Paris had always been on my bucket list, because, it’s Paris. Drew is a travel wizard, and found tickets to Paris for super cheap if you flew Iceland air. So obviously, we made a stop in Iceland too. Here are my thoughts on Paris:
– It was so ornate! There was so much gold and marble all over the city. The buildings look so old (because they are) and it’s crazy how massive they are and how many are carved with ornate details.
– Paris felt like a much bigger city than I expected it to. Like New York. I thought it would feel a little more quaint and romantic. They do have cute cafe’s with outdoor seating like I pictured, but a lot of it just looks like any other big city. I think I prefer Rome!
– I would LOVE to spend more time in the smaller villages and French countryside. The days that we were outside of Paris in the countryside were my favorite by far.
– I really, really, really love that people walk down the streets with a baguette tucked under their arm :)
– Their farmers markets are AMAZING.
– Ok, the Eiffel Tower is just as cool in real life as it is in pictures.
As always, let me know if you would like me to add any of these photos to my PRINT SHOP for purchase!
Iceland
And then we landed in Iceland, and the scenery was unlike anything I’d seen before. Even though it was already freezing and mostly overcast in September, I fell in love with Iceland. This first photo is from our drive from the airport to the Blue Lagoon. I’ve never seen anything like this before. Just miles and miles of green moss and volcanic looking rock. I thought the Blue Lagoon was going to be super touristy, and it was, but it was also amazing! It’s filled with silica, which is what gives it the milky blue coloring.
So much yarn. So much wool. So many sheep.
Since we didn’t have a long time in Iceland, we did the Gold Circle, which includes the Kerid Crater, Geysir, and Gullfoss Falls.
OBSESSED with the teeniest, tiniest little town called Arnarstapi. Can you get any more picturesque than this house on the cliff? If I wasn’t such an extrovert, I would pack up my bags and go live here. There were only about 20 houses in the area, two tiny restaurants, and a few cabins for rent in the tiny seaside town. We went to one of the tiny restaurants, and the girl working the counter said there were only nine people living in Arnarstapi year round. NINE!
The beautiful drive along to coast of Snaefellsnes.
We stopped for coffee in Hellnar at Fjoruhusid cafe, which is the tiniest cafe in the region! It was built right into a cliff, overlooking the water.
