Alhambra Hall | A Charleston, South Carolina Wedding

Emily and Zeke were married on a lovely summer day in Charleston, South Carolina. There was a nice breeze, the sky was perfectly blue, and the ceremony was placed right on the waterfront. Emily was so sweet as we were heading out to the water for her and Zeke’s first look. She is a wedding planner, so she has prepared hundreds of brides for this very moment. She is such a calming presence, and knows exactly what to say. But when it came time for her to walk out to meet her groom, she was shaking with nervous excitement. Also, as a note to those of you brides and grooms who are on the fence about a first look, both Emily and Zeke said their hearts were pounding just as hard as they were about to walk down the aisle. It’s a completely different experience than a first look! At a first look, you are able to share a special moment just the two of you. Your groom can not only think how beautiful you look, but he can actually tell you, since you aren’t standing in front of all your guests. You can share an embrace, and spend some time just the two of you together on your wedding day. And let me tell you from personal experience, it is still just as emotional when you walk down the aisle, because you know you are about to commit your life to this person, and you have had time to spend with them already that day. Ok, off my soapbox for now. I just thought Emily and Zeke’s words about that were perfect!

I’ve known Emily for a few years, as she is one of the amazing wedding planners that I work with a lot here in Charleston. I was beyond honored when she asked me to photograph her wedding. We met up last year to take engagement photos, and this was the first time I had met Zeke. He is absolutely, 100 percent perfect for Emily. And I love that while he loves working on cars and fixing things like a manly man, he is also a hopeless romantic. For their first dance, he had written Emily a song in which he played guitar and sang, and recorded it for them to dance to. I think everyone at the reception was crying :)
