Julie & Danny | A Downtown Charleston Engagement

Julie & Danny

An Engagement Session in Downtown Charleston

Julie and Danny first met in college while playing club volleyball. (I met my husband in college while playing sand volleyball, but let me tell you, it couldn’t have been my volleyball skills that won him over. I’m really, REALLY bad at volleyball.) Their team had an out of state game, which required an EIGHTEEN hour road trip. They decided to sit next to each other, and while it may have been a long ride, it was the start of their story! I usually ask during an engagement session how the proposal happened, and I have to share theirs! They were living in Dallas at the time, and Danny planned a date night to take Julie to a building downtown that has a restaurant on the 60th floor. The elevator was broken (anyone here watch The Mindy Project?! This totally took me back to the episode where she has to climb to the top of the empire state building to meet HER Danny!) and so they were an hour and a half late to their dinner reservation. The ring was in his inside jacket pocket, and Danny had to keep moving away from Julie as she tried to lean into him. I’m just picturing how this is going down, and Julie being like, “why won’t he let me lean on him?!” After a little bit of waiting for the elevator, Julie suggested they just go back home and eat pizza :) Finally, the elevator is working again, and they make it to their dinner. Danny takes a deep breath, and starts into his proposal. Julie, however, thinks it’s a conversation about their relationship, and starts chiming in. Finally, Danny gets down on one knee, and Julie realizes what’s happening :)

I love that she didn’t even realize until the second he got down on one knee!!

Without further ado, here is the lovely couple :) 2016-09-20_0003 2016-09-20_0004 2016-09-20_0005 charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement 2016-09-20_0026 2016-09-20_0027 2016-09-20_0028 charleston engagement charleston engagement 2016-09-20_0031 charleston engagement 2016-09-20_0033 charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement charleston engagement

Sophia & Rhett | An Old Sheldon Church Ruins Engagement

Sophia & Rhett

An Engagement Session at Old Sheldon Church Ruins

I first met Rhett when he was a groomsman in Alyssa and Garrett’s wedding last spring. I met Sophia separately when I was taking a photo outside the American Theatre for her company. And then I finally met the two together at Home Team BBQ on a rainy weekend (thinking back I’m pretty sure it was a few days before the epic flood in October!) I liked them both separately, and I liked them just as much as a couple! I am so excited to photograph their wedding this fall. Rhett is from Beaufort, South Carolina, and so when it came to their engagement photos, Sophia and Rhett thought it would be meaningful to them if they could take photos both in Beaufort and Charleston. They had fallen in love with the Old Sheldon Church Ruins outside of Beaufort, and had even looked at it as a location for their wedding. While they chose to get married in Charleston instead, they decided that the church ruins would make a beautiful location for their engagement photos. And they were so right! The combination of the brick and the soft spanish moss and oak trees created such a romantic feel. And Sophia’s choice of an off-white lacy dress was the perfect accent. We then drove back to Charleston to take some photos at their new home with their pups. It’s always an adventure when you add pups into the session, but these two did a great job. I love all the photos with their tongues hanging out :)
