Jordan and Kevin’s wedding day was nothing short of magical. The weather was looking pretty scary for that day, with forecasts of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Their contingency plan was to have the ceremony at a gazebo downtown, but Jordan and Kevin had fallen in love with the idea of getting married under the beautiful Angel Oak. They made a game time decision to have their ceremony there despite the rain. And boy oh boy, did it rain. But that only added to the magic. They laid down a blanket under one of the branches, and said their vows with the family surrounding them. After the ceremony, we splashed around in the rain and mud for a little bit, with Jordan and Kevin laughing and beaming the whole time. From the moment I heard their story, I knew I had to photograph their wedding. You know when you hear someone’s story and you just know they are amazing people? That’s Jordan and Kevin. I asked her if I could share her story, and here it is!
How We Met
Kevin and I met at the beginning of our freshman year of high school and easily became friends. We had Spanish and P.E. together, and I particularly remember bonding that year while partnering up for games of pickle ball during gym. It was also during that gym class that the potential for our relationship was first mentioned. Our gym teacher, of all people, told me that Kevin could be my Prince Charming. At the time I was terribly embarrassed but, boy, I have to say Mr. Noble really nailed that one.
Falling In Love
We grew to be closer friends over the next several years, sharing many conversations about our favorite books, sing-a-long car rides, our grand plans for the future, and silly adventures that I would instigate. Spending time together was a simple and genuine pleasure. By the time we started our last year of high school, I found myself constantly looking forward to the next time I’d see Kevin and smiling goofily after each interaction we would have. I had developed a serious crush. It took a little time and some seriously overt flirting, but it eventually came out that he felt the same way. We started dating and we have had an incredible journey together from that point.
Since then we have tackled long distance for four years, taken on a cross-country move, founded a business together, and traveled a good bit of this beautiful world hand-in-hand. On our greatest trip yet Kevin asked me to marry him on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence; it was the easiest question I’ve ever answered in my life.
Eloping To Charleston!
Let me preface this whole decision by stating that I have a small love affair with old, Southern cities; there’s just a unique charm and beauty about them that really enchants me. When planning our wedding, we decided that we wanted a day that was romantic, simple, and a bit of an adventure. My obsession with Southern cities coupled with lovely Charleston being high on our list of places to visit made for an easy choice. Eloping to Charleston fit the bill perfectly. In the end we decided that a ceremony under the epic Angel Oak was the ideal wedding for us, and it turned out to be even better than we could have imagined!
