Becca & Matt
A Hurricane Day Elopement at Magnolia Plantation
This elopement was one for the books.
Becca and Matt traveled to Charleston this October to have their long-awaited elopement ceremony at Magnolia Plantation. The day after they arrived, they turned on the news to hear about Hurricane Matthew, and the governor telling people to evacuate. Their ceremony was supposed to take place on Thursday, with the mandatory evacuation being set for Wednesday afternoon. That Tuesday, they asked if I would be available on Wednesday morning, and I said, “YES! Let’s do it then!” The folks at Magnolia Plantation were so sweet. Even though their gates were closed to the public, they allowed me, Becca, Matt, and Kristen, their officiant, to enter the grounds. It was a magical feeling to have the whole place to ourselves. The only think you could hear were the birds chirping and a gentle wind blowing…the calm before the storm. Everything was so serene and beautiful, and they both teared up multiple times as they said their vows.
Once again, this couple is one who knows how their marriage is so much more than just their wedding day. It was completely unexpected how it turned out. It didn’t end up being on the date they had planned, at the time they had planned. But it was still one of the most gorgeous and meaningful ceremonies I’ve ever seen, and the love they share for each other can’t be deterred by any natural disaster. Take that, Hurricane Matthew.
The ceremony was taken in part from The Princess Bride, and I absolutely LOVED it. So I thought I would type it out here:
