Wedding days rarely go exactly as planned. But for all my spring 2020 couples, that’s a huge understatement. Katie and Cat were supposed to have their wedding this April, but because of corona, they had to reschedule. They decided to have an elopement at Washington Square Park on the day of their wedding, and I’m SO glad they did!
I said this after their engagement session too, that Katie and Cat are best friends. They make each other laugh, they comfort each other, they build each other up. They wrote personalized vows for their ceremony, and they were so beautiful. They both cried as they read their promises to each other. I cried too, and then probably had mascara running down my face for the rest of the evening because I didn’t want to touch my face. It’s moments like these that I feel so incredibly honored to witness. Everything else might be cancelled, but love it not.
Cat told me that when they had first started talking about their wedding day, it included springtime, parks, blooming flowers, and their pups. She said this elopement sort of came full circle to what they had originally been envisioning. I love that she was able to focus on the positives, even in a tough situation.
Cat laughed at the teeniest, cutest cake they brought to cut, and Katie laughed at Cat laughing. I played their first dance song on my phone, and they danced under the jasmine blooms. We walked down the empty cobblestone streets of downtown Charleston, and I was so happy to be able to document this day for them.
Katie and Cat, thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me be part of your love story. You are exactly the type of couple that make me adore my job. I can’t wait to celebrate with you again next year! Wedding part II!
