Pepper Plantation Wedding * Kathy and Nick
Kathy and Nick are two of the most lovable people I’ve met. They are laid-back, hilarious, and light-hearted. I photographed their engagement session awhile back, and I remember enjoying every moment with them. Everything was so relaxed, and we just chatted as we walked around and took some awesomely industrial photographs along the way :)
Their wedding was extra special for me because I had gotten married at the Pepper Plantation almost exactly a year earlier, and this was the first time I had been back. It was full of nostalgia for me, but it was also fun to see how differently it looked with Kathy and Nick’s special touches. Nick is an amazing mechanic, and his pride and joy is his 1952 Ford F1 pickup truck. He spent a year putting his heart and soul into fixing it up and making it useable. They weren’t sure if it was going to be able to drive all the way to the plantation, but when I showed up on their wedding day, there it was, front and center in all its glory. On a day that can be so wrapped up in the bride, I absolutely love that Kathy wanted to display so prominently the work of her amazing husband-to-be! Also in honor of Nick, their cake topper was an adorable little robot couple, which you will see below.
Their first look was precious. Nick was so nervous, and Kathy was like, “Let’s go see my groom!” with her typical no-nonsense energy. When Nick turned around, his jaw dropped and he gave her the biggest hug. Later, he told me, “I’m SO glad we did the first look thing! It completely calmed me down, and if we hadn’t, I wouldn’t have been able to tell Kathy how GORGEOUS she is!” Um, yeah, that got me.
Their reception was also at the Pepper Plantation, with community tables set up, complete with hundreds of beautiful fall flowers. They placed vintage Coke and Sprite at each setting for everyone to enjoy, which was a nice touch with their 1952 Ford. The festivities played out well into the evening, with bocce ball, a fire pit, marshmellow roasting, and a make-shift photobooth in front of their prized pickup.
It was an absolutely beautiful day, and as a destination wedding for their family and friends to travel down to Charleston, they made everyone feel right at home.
