Are you looking for something chic and urban, casual and playful, or maybe more elegant and romantic? No matter what your style is as a couple, Charleston’s unique and historic scenery provides endless options for photo session locations. Here are the best 5 locations for your Charleston, SC engagement photos:

Hampton Park 

Hampton Park is one of Charleston’s largest parks, and it’s a perfect spot for engagement photo sessions. It features paths lined with big beautiful oak trees covered in Spanish moss which is a classic characteristic of Charleston. Hampton park also provides the most extensive floral display of any park in the city. So, if you’re dreaming of a romantic picnic in the park photo shoot with your partner, this location is for you! There are so many versatile locations at Hampton park that any style, either casual or formal, would produce amazing and timeless engagement photos.

Downtown Charleston 

If a charming city feel is more your style, there are endless photo location options on the streets of downtown Charleston. The city’s cobblestone streets and pastel buildings provide the perfect background for couples who are visiting Charleston, or for those who want to show off where they’re from!  With so many unique spots to choose from, downtown Charleston is also acceptable for either a casual, or a more formal style engagement session.

College of Charleston 

College of Charleston, the oldest college in South Carolina, is also located downtown and features Charleston’s signature architectural style. It’s usually not too busy during the afternoon and evening, which is perfect for photo shoots. With it’s oak trees, brick streets, and historic buildings, it’s definitely a great spot for couples who met there, or have family ties to the College of Charleston, but it’s also an incredible location for any couple who prefers a more classic urban style for their engagement photos.

Folly Beach 

Folly Beach is my absolute favorite beach, and in my opinion, it’s the best beach location for engagement sessions! The section of Folly Beach that I frequently photograph in not only has ocean views, but also marsh views, AND sand dune views. With beach photos, having a variety of backgrounds provides a more diverse photo gallery for couples to choose from. At this particular section of Folly Beach, the dunes add an element of depth that results in stunning engagement photos. Obviously, if you’re shooting at the beach, you don’t want to wear high heels or formal clothing. Flowy dresses and casual summer clothes are ideal for a Folly Beach photo session. You may be able to get away with a sweater if your engagement session isn’t in the middle of the summer.

Charles Towne Landing 

Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site is located in the West Ashley area of Charleston. This location is another ideal spot for those couples who are looking for the classic Charleston oak trees and Spanish moss in their engagement photos! This location also features beautiful lakes and marshes, classic Charleston iron gates, the alley of oaks, and my favorite massive oak tree in Charleston. There are a few details you should be aware of with this location. The Legare Waring House is a wedding venue located inside of Charles Towne Landing, so if your engagement session is during the weekend, we might be limited as to where we can go within the site. Also, to have your session here we have to pay an admission fee of $12 per person, so it would add an additional $36 to your session. I still love this location; it just takes a little extra planning!
