The William Aiken House in Charleston, South Carolina, is another one of my absolute favorite wedding venues. The mansion, located in downtown Charleston, dates back to the year 1807. It perfectly combines that historic Charleston charm with modern sophistication, which makes it an ideal wedding venue location for any style. I’ve photographed weddings at the William Aiken House quite a few times, so I wanted to share a few reasons why I love this wedding venue. There are so many amazing features to share, but here a few of my favorites: 

Right in the heart of downtown Charleston 

As I mentioned, the William Aiken house is located right downtown. This detail is especially significant if you have a lot of guests coming in from out of town. Since it’s located in the city, guests who are staying in local hotels will appreciate the accessibility. They’ll also be able to make a mini-vacation out of their visit, and they’ll have the opportunity to explore downtown Charleston.

Large capacity 

Having a hard time narrowing down your guest list? No problem. This venue is large wedding approved. While still providing elegant charm, the William Aiken House can host up to 500 guests. The venue features both indoor and outdoor event space with two large ballrooms and expansive outdoor covered piazzas, so there is plenty of room for your guests to mix, mingle, and dance the night away.  

Multiple ceremony locations 

There is no shortage of beauty at the William Aiken House, and your ceremony location options will not disappoint. You can choose to have your wedding ceremony under an extravagant pergola positioned against a wall of elegant greens, or in front of the one-of-a-kind gothic-style carriage house. Both locations provide a stunning backdrop to exchange your vows and say “I do.”

Everything can take place on site 

I love wedding venues that allow you to do everything in one place. Not only is it convenient for you, but it’s convenient for your guests as well! The William Aiken House provides space in the main house, and in the carriage house, for both sides of the wedding party to get ready before the big day. From there, they provide ceremony location options and ample space, both indoor and outdoor, to host your reception. You can also rent out the carriage house to spend the night in after the celebration! William Aiken House is your one-stop shop of Charleston wedding venues.  

BONUS: Quick tip

For this location, I would highly recommend doing a first look. First looks are ideal for larger weddings so that you and your (almost) spouse can have all of your intimate portraits done before your guests arrive. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy your cocktail hour with your wedding party and guests! 

If you’re looking for a venue that has that classic Charleston, South Carolina charm, but can still host all of your friends and family, the William Aiken House is the perfect choice. The wedding photos I take at this venue are always stunning. I promise you won’t regret it!
