So if you read my preview post for Lindsay and Carey’s Philadelphia wedding, you heard that this was a pretty epic wedding. Here’s the story. It’s been unseasonably rainy in most places in the United States this year, and Philadelphia is no exception. The skies were looking pretty ominous all morning, but we were able to get out to the park for Lindsay and Carey’s first look. As soon as they had done their first look, it started POURING. Luckily, there was a gazebo nearby, so they hurried off into the gazebo and were able to spend a few minutes under cover while the rain died down. Thankfully, the storms held off for the whole hour and a half that we did Lindsay and Carey’s portraits, as well as bridal party. (Side note: I absolutely LOVED having a full two hours to do portraits before the ceremony! Winning!) All the guests had arrived at the park for the ceremony, and Lindsay looked absolutely stunning walking down the aisle to the waterfront. Carey’s dad, who officiated the wedding, said a prayer, and as soon as he said “Amen,” the storms let loose. Everyone had to run for cover into the pavilion, which was right behind the ceremony site. It was a beautiful ceremony under the pavilion (a beautiful wooden building right in front of the water…what’s not to love?) and Lindsay and Carey didn’t let the rain spoil a wonderful and Christ-centered ceremony. The reception was held in Lindsay’s backyard, and thankfully, they had rented a huge tent for the event. Halfway through the reception, I’m taking pictures of the dance floor, and I see people’s mouths drop open and point toward the back of the tent. I turn around and see a river, yes, a river, flowing through the back end of the tent. By this point, we had all taken our shoes off and were ankle deep in water. My favorite part? No one cared! Everyone was still on the dance floor singing their hearts out, and happy that the rain made the floor slick enough to do the moonwalk. It’s so precious when something unplanned happens, and the bride and groom don’t even care because they know what’s really important is that they are married, that everyone is celebrating with them, and that they are starting a beautiful journey together. Congrats to Lindsay and Carey!
First look photos are my favorite! And Lindsay and Carey’s first look was so sweet. They are so in love! And then the rain came. Run for shelter! We loved the houses and architecture at the park, so we walked around finding fun spots for their photos. I love when the bride and groom have an awesome wedding party. Makes my job so much more fun! Who can resist a good goose chase? And then the rain came back… Onto the backyard reception! Cutest pie bar EVER! Their guest books were hand-drawn maps of the subway systems in each of their towns. New York, where Carey is from, Philadelphia for Lindsay, and Chicago, where they fell in love! Love :)
